The Vienna Residence Orchestra is a traditional chamber orchestra that performs classical concerts of the famous music of W.A. Mozart and J. Strauss in the most beautiful palaces of Vienna.
It is impossible to visit Vienna without experiencing one of the city’s most famous attractions: classical music. The choice of venues and performers is enormous, and it wasn’t easy to decide where to go, but we had a personal recommendation for The Vienna Residence Orchestra. Hence, we bought the tickets and enjoyed a lovely, intimate chamber concert on a Saturday evening at the Auersperg Palace, a beautiful venue for classical music performances in the city centre.
Viennese music, opera, and ballet
It was a delightful experience, including various classical Viennese music, opera, and ballet. The Vienna Residence Orchestra performed a selection of pieces from Mozart, Beethoven, Vivaldi, Lehár, and Strauss beautifully. Additionally, two ballet dancers also performed a few short pieces while opera singers performed a few arias, which were a highlight of the concert. Moreover, the opera singers and ballet dancers were all dressed in historical costumes, which added to the charm of the performance.

Lovely venue
The concert was held in the Rosenkavaliersaal (one of 11 halls), making the performance intimate and exclusive. On your way up to the concert hall, you should pay attention to the large double staircase, one of Vienna’s most beautiful staircases. The oval ballroom is now known as the Rosenkavalier Hall. It received its current furnishings under Prince Johann Adam Auersperg (1721 – 1795), and a classical frieze connects its fluted double pilasters. Excellent acoustics combined with great sound made the concert a lovely experience.
Talented performers
We highly recommend The Vienna Residence Orchestra’s concert at The Auersperg Palace in Vienna. It was a delightful experience performed by very talented musicians, opera singers, and ballet dancers, and the performance was held in a beautiful venue with excellent acoustics. Mostly foreign travellers, the audience appreciated the performance and awarded the performers a standing ovation at the concert’s end. The concert lasted for about 1,5 hours, including a 15-minute break. You can buy drinks in the foyajé outside the concert hall during the break. If you are a classical music fan, this concert gives you value for the money.

The Auersperg Palace
You find the Auersperg Palace in the Josefstadt – the eighth district of Vienna, easily reachable by public transport. It was built in 1706 by Giovanni Christiano Neupauer, according to plans by Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach for Hieronymus Capece di Rofrano. In 1777, ownership passed to the Auersperg dynasty. In 1786, the palace was renamed Palais Auersperg and was the setting for a series of essential and well-known musical events. Palais Auersperg has changed ownership several times and was used as a military headquarters during World War II. Notwithstanding its exquisite halls and ballrooms, it remains one of Vienna’s most elegant cultural venues for balls and musical performances.
